President Javier Milei reviewed his first year in office and launched his electoral campaign for 2025 at an event attended by his cabinet and prominent figures such as Karina Milei, Luis Caputo, Patricia Bullrich, and Guillermo Francos.
During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Milei addressed controversial topics, provoking strong criticism from former president and current head of the Justicialist Party (PJ), Cristina Kirchner. This confrontation reflects not only ideological differences but also a struggle for narrative in a complex economic and social context. Kirchner criticized Milei for his comments on "woke" culture and the LGTBQ+ community, accusing him of focusing on attacks against women and homosexuals.
At the same time, Elisa Carrió defended a "woke" agenda and threatened to file criminal charges against Milei for alleged constitutional violations. The confrontation between the president and the former president shows the growing political polarization in Argentina as the 2025 elections approach.
Amid these tensions, Javier Lanari, Undersecretary of Press, responded to Kirchner, who had questioned the tone of Milei's speech. Kirchner suggested that the president had abandoned principles in his intervention in Davos, where, according to her, he engaged in "insulting, attacking, and defaming."
The former president also questioned Milei's consistency in changing his discourse on the free market, suggesting that his stance could conflict with former U.S. President Donald Trump's protectionist policies. In a sarcastic tone, Cristina Kirchner reminded Milei of his definition of "libertarianism" according to economist Alberto Benegas Lynch (h): "Libertarianism is the unrestricted respect of others' life projects, based on the principle of non-aggression."
This exchange between Argentine political leaders reveals a dispute that is not only ideological but also personal, in a context of economic and social challenges in the country.
